“You are the only one for us”
Several scores of thousands of schoolchildren are getting ready for Song Day, the most popular event of the Schoolchildren’s Song Festival. After several years of practice and selection about ten thousand children will participate in the gala event that will be held in Vingis Park.
Traditionally the festival’s Song Day takes place in Vilnius Vingis Park in the evening Statehood Day and the day of King Mindaugas’ coronation. There on the Park stage masses of young singers from all over the country will perform. Song Day has one more nice tradition: at 9 pm local time a short interval is made so that Lithuanians all over the world could sing together the national anthem, Vincas Kudrika’s “Tautinę giesmę” (National Hymn).
The repertoire of Song Day is varied and demanding: music popular with young people (rap, rock, pop, and hip-hop), the best of Lithuanian folklore as well as classical choral songs. Songs performed in the local dialects of all the five country’s ethnographic regions (Aukštaitija, Dzūkija, Sūduva, Žemaitija and Pamario kraštas) are also included. Raimundas Katinas, artistic leader and chief conductor of Song Day, will lead the events for the fourth time.
We hope that nothing will spoil the gala concert on the evening of 6 July 2016.
